Our Mission
1. Raise awareness of the Haenyeo Tradition to the foreign world
Did you know? The native Haenyeo culture has been inherited in Korea for one thousand years! Still, several areas of the world still remain foreign to the women divers of Jeju island. This was a grief to all members of our group, especially as residents of the island. We pursue to spread our prominent heritage by utilizing our unique advantage – communicating bilingually. This way, we act as a bridge between the two worlds, something that cannot be done without our prestigious skills.
2. Empower Haenyeos with creative projects
Prior, elderly Haenyeos, now aging to their 90’s, were not given an opportunity to mark the end of their life-long career formally. They did not receive any mentions nor a single badge for their endeavors. We, as Haenyeo supporters, wished to ornament the retirement for Jeju’s few lasting Haenyeos. With abundant support from our community members, we managed to start our mission: to organize retirement ceremonies of Haenyeos for generous recognition. We present our full respect to Haenyeos. They are the living culture of Jeju island, Korea.
Our logo is more than just a logo
Our logo is an authentic representation of our mission to protect and elevate the Haenyeo, Korea's cultural and iconic female divers. Each detail was careful and intentional.
We used a superhero theme and used bold, dynamic shapes to represent action and strength. And the colors were also intentional: blue for trust and resilience and yellow for energy and protection. The swirls on either end are to represent the task force badge, and the color and shape represent that we are a team and are ready to act. The slight shine at the logo represents the shiny fabric in traditional Haenyeo suits, and this is also a nice detail to introduce some significant 'cultural detail' into the logo.
We incorporated the design onto uniforms and t-shirts to create some identity in how we wear our commitment and stand as our team.
